​As a teenager, when many of my peers were deciding what their future might look like I became a mother. My first daughter arrived at a time when I was still growing myself. My mother stood beside me — helping me care for my daughter so I could go to college — but neither of us had a roadmap for what that journey was supposed to look like. She gave me the foundation of her love and support.
The path itself? I had to find that on my own.

I built one. I went on to earn my Associates Degree in Child Development, Bachelor’s in Child Psychology and my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction as a first generation college graduate. I spent the next 30 years as an educator inside a large urban school district, watching the same pattern play out in thousands of girls and women: brilliant, capable people who couldn’t see the path because no one in their life had ever walked it in front of them.
I raised three daughters. All three graduated college. Not because I had answers handed to me, but because I learned — the hard way, then the deliberate way — how to build a pathway when none existed.
That is the work I do now.
I’m Angela English, and I didn't come to this work through theory. Over thirty years in education has taught me that most people standing at a crossroad-a district trying to close the readiness gap, a young woman rebuilding-don't need more encouragement. They need someone who's already made the crossing themselves. That's the work I do now: strategizing from the bridge I built, not the one I read about. Every framework I used was tested first in my own life, then refined across three decades in classrooms and hallways with real students and real families navigating real stakes.
